Project Decsription
The project is on the site of an existing heavy fuel oil power plant which currently produces 240 MW of electricity. The power plant currently under construction will be a natural gas fired combined cycle turbine and will have the capacity to produce 460 MW of electricity. The power station will be operated by SSE Ireland and will provide electricity to approximately 220,000 houses in Ireland.
The development site is Brownfield and located within the confines of the existing operational power plant facility, formerly operated by ESB. The Great Island power plant occupies an area of approximately 58 hectares (143 acres). The proposed development site will occupy approximately 8 hectares (19 acres).
MMOS Role
MMOS Consulting Engineers Ltd are employed by John Sisk & Son contractors to provide reinforced concrete design and details to facilitate the construction of the power plants reinforced concrete elements. These include the main turbine table and associated foundation, the HRSG foundations and floor slab as well as many other ancillary building foundations and reinforced concrete elements.
